Beautifully crafted one at a time, each wood carving starts from an original hand drawing. Every step of the carving and painting process is done by hand with great attention to detail and as a finishing touch a French paste wax is buffed into the finish until a rich luster is obtained.
This striking, hand carved Ale Bowl is also known as Kjenge. These bowls gained popularity around mid-1700 and are still found in many rural Norwegian homes.
Ale bowls were passed down generation to generation. Ale bowls came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Sometimes the shapes would reflect the imagination of the maker and could be quite creative. The two headed dragon ale bowls are typical of the west coast of Norway near Voss.
This Ale Bowl will become a family heirloom and enjoyed by many generations.
