The Claddagh Ring

24th Oct 2016

The Claddagh symbol holds an important place in the culture and tradition of Ireland, and is most represented in the Claddagh Ring. The legend of the Claddagh is about an Irish man sold into slavery, whom, upon his return to Galway years later, gifted to his love a Claddagh Ring, which he crafted using the skills he learned in captivity, to show he never stopped loving her: the heart representing love, the hands representing friendship, and the crown representing loyalty. There is a quote that goes along with the presentation of the ring, "With these hands I give you my heart, and I crown it with my love."

The way you wear it bears significance as well. For single people, you wear it on your right hand with the heart facing outwards to show your heart is open, and a heart facing towards you, means your heart is taken. If you are engaged you wear it with the heart facing outwards, but on your left hand. Once you get married, you turn the heart towards you on your left hand, so show the world that your heart has found it's counterpart and the two hearts have forever joined together.

Mully's Touch of Ireland proudly brings this tradition to the United States with our selection of imported Claddagh Jewelry, especially our Claddagh Rings. We also carry bands with a Claddagh embedded into the band, so it is not protruding out, if that is more what you desire.
